Atheists less trusted that rapists. As an atheist in the bible belt I was told by a friend that she would have been less shocked to hear I was gay than atheist. As a mother, married over 10 years I thought that was a very telling statement.
I agree. The fervor involved with being devout is an awesome fearful occurrence!
I too have encountered this and am shocked by it. True ignorance of what people of no faith represent.
